App Press Bugs and the Quick Solutions

It has been reported by users over the last several weeks there are a handful of tiny “hiccups” in App Press. We’ve concluded 99% of all problems reported are related to the App Press Previewer app not displaying designs and pages correctly. These problems can be prevented by following the instructions below.

1. When uploading a file to App Press don’t put spaces in the file name.

Right: imagebutton.png or image_button.png

Wrong: image  button.png

Placing a space in the file name will cause the page and/or graphic not to appear in the App Press Previewer app.

2. Don’t put an apostrophe in the page name.

By placing an apostrophe in the page name it will cause that page not to appear in the App Press Previewer app.

3. Add at least two pages into your issue before you preview it on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

If you only add one page into your issue and try to preview the issue you will see this:

Please add two pages into your issue then preview it.

We are working to fix these problems but if you have any questions, comments or concerns please email us at info [at] myappress.com or grant [at] myappress.com (Monday through Friday 8:00am – 8:00pm EST). One of our dedicated staff members will contact you back within one hour of receiving your email.

App Press Design Tip of the Week: Twitter Integration

A cool way to display Twitter in your app is to use the App Press Twitter integration. This feature will allow you to display links from any Twitter account. Tweet a link and App Press will display that link. Think of it as a customizable Flipboard. This feature allows your App Press iOS app to constantly be updated automatically via any Twitter account. Using the App Press Twitter integration is a simple two step process.

1.) In a page you create, simply switch to ‘Reading’ mode then select ‘Tweet Link’.

2.) Enter the Twitter account and select which tweet to display.

In the screenshots above we entered the App Press official Twitter account @myappress as the feed to display and selected to show the first tweet. Our first tweet reads:

In the App Press page the tweet is displayed near the top and the link is displayed below:

The process is that simple. Since this is a brand new feature we are looking for YOU the App Press designer to think of creative ways to build this into your App Press app.

The Jacky Winter Group Field Guide: iPad Edition was built code free using App Press. Here’s what Jacky Winter Group director, Jeremy Wortsman had to say about their team’s experience with App Press:

“We are incredibly thrilled to be using App Press for our agency’s first iPad app. After investigating similar options on the market, there is simply no contest in terms of price, support, features, and overall level of care and personal attention that App Press demonstrated over the course of developing our app. We are still shocked to this day how seamless the process has been and how our existing print design resources were able to effortlessly translate into a highly polished and functional native IOS app. Simply remarkable.”
